BIONICLE Destinies: Into the Darkness

Chapter Five: Lost Treasure

Created by Greg Farshtey

“Well,” Kopaka mused, “This complicates things.”

The team stood in a chamber that was off-the books and far removed from the main passages of the Archives. So well-hidden was it, in fact, that it had been built in that region of Metru Nui where no Matoran ever dared venture – the surface of Onu-Metru.

But when the Toa Nuva emerged from the tunnels and into the vault above, they had arrived to find the object of their search – the ancient artifact called the Staff of Artakha – was missing.

“Great,” Pohatu rolled his eyes. “On our first mission we free the Bahrag and the Bohrok swarms, and on our second the object we’re supposed to retrieve is missing. Awakening Mata Nui has never been easier.”

“Pohatu, please,” Gali urged. “This isn’t easy for any of us, but we have to push through. Remember what Axonn said. If we don’t finish it by the time the Inika save Mata Nui—”

“I know, I know,” Pohatu sighed. “Then our window may close for reawakening him too.”

“Besides,” Gali winked. “I seem to remember someone once telling me to stop being so ill at ease and rejoice.”

“Wait, Staff of Artakha?” Onua gasped. “I don’t know why I didn’t remember this before! Right after we returned to the city, when Whenua was showing me around the Archives, he was telling me about the exhibits the Dark Hunters had stolen in the past. Now that I think about it, a staff by that name was one that he’d mentioned.”

“Then it seems we have a field trip,” Tahu said. “To the land of the Dark Hunters.”

Lewa nodded. “Even if we must battle each and every one of them to get it.”
