Pohatu scanned the chamber for an exit. As he raised his eyes, he gasped.

“Look out! That stone is falling right for us!”

“It’s no use!” Lewa shouted. “It’s too big, and there’s nowhere to flee-run to!”

Tahu triggered his mask, expecting the others to do the same. But this time, the forcefield that emanated outward from him covered all six Toa. “The Mask of Shielding protected us all!” the Fire Toa marveled. “It could never do that before…!”

“And it never will again, if we do not escape!” barked Kopaka. “Lewa, Pohatu—combine the powers of your masks!”

“Sure,” Pohatu shrugged, unsure what he meant. Nevertheless, he obeyed, sending his power of speed cascading from him and feeling it flow to the rest. Yet even as he did, he felt Lewa’s levitation power fill him.

“I see!” Pohatu realized. “The Mask of Speed gets us off the ground—”

“And the Mask of Levitation keeps us in the high-air!” Lewa finished, equally awed. “Why didn’t I think of that?”

Kopaka flew past them. “You would have, Lewa…eventually—if we had had the time to wait. But patience is no virtue when the ground begins to shake.”

“It feels like the whole island is collapsing into the sea!” Gali exclaimed.

The Toa ascended with remarkable speed, but it was not long before they could go no further. The ceiling blocked them, but an opening in the walls seemed to provide a way out.

“Through the tunnels! Everyone, go!” Tahu ordered. As they ran, the Toa of Fire took the lead. “That way! I see light up ahead!”

The Toa dashed through the tunnels, struggling to keep their footing as the very earth trembled beneath them. Pohatu was so focused on the ground beneath his feet that he almost missed the red forms up ahead.

“Watch out!” he shouted. “There are Bohrok headed straight for us!”

He was right. A small cluster of Tahnok were milling around, looking confused and directionless. For a moment, the Toa feared they would slow their exit too long for them to escape. But one of the Bohrok looked in their direction and then looked away as if it hadn’t seen them.

“Without Cahdok and Gahdok to direct them, they are confused, out of control!” Onua realized.

“We don’t have time for this.” Tahu growled. “They’re blocking our escape, and we need to get out of here.”

Onua glanced at the others. It seemed they had realized their Kanohi powers could now ripple through the rest of them. Could he now do the same with his mask?

“Yes!” Onua exclaimed, feeling power channeling to the others. “I share the power of the Mask of Strength with you. We must use it now!”

As one, the Toa Nuva felt power flood through their limbs. As Onua raised his arms, the others did the same, realizing what he was about to do. As one, they brought their full strength cracking down upon the ground beneath them.

A gapping fissure split open beneath them, splitting open the earth beneath the Bohrok. The heavy Bohrok, scarcely aware of what was happening, spilled right in, tumbling over each other and filling the chasm beneath.

Kopaka held his new ice blades aloft, causing spikes of ice to erupt out of the ground, pinning the Bohrok beneath them. “This will keep them from returning for a while,” he explained hurriedly. “As the ice melts, they will be forced further below.”

“Admire your work later!” Tahu barked. “Our blow has weakened this tunnel even more!”

The Toa sprang into action, using their Masks of Strength, Speed, and Levitation to leap across the hole and sprinting for the surface, now within sight.

“The Bohrok domain is collapsing!” shouted Lewa.

The six Toa jumped out of the chasm mouth just as it exploded and finished crumbling on itself. Then they flew high up into the air again, with help from Lewa, until they could see an expansive view of the island of Mata Nui. While there were enormous areas of bare earth, charred rock, and other damage, the Bohrok swarms were nowhere to be seen.
